First time doing copper qt… I have a 60 breeder with marineland emperor 400 hob filter. Comes with these filters which has some activated carbon in them. I read somewhere you shouldn’t run carbon with copper because it will deplete the copper.

Are these safe to use in a qt tank with copper or should I use something else inside the marineland hob filter??

You will not want to run them, as they do contain carbon. The carbon will absorb the copper and make it hard to keep levels in therapeutic range until no more copper cane absorbed.

For QT, I just use filter floss and sponges cut to fit the HOB filters. This allows me to use the sponges for housing bacteria and the floor keeps those sponges from getting clogged up with any gunk.

So when placing them in the marineland hob, the water will first pass through the filter floss, then through the sponge then back out to the tank? When you say sponge, are you referring to just like kitchen cleaning sponge? Obviously brand new not used lol

Correct for the layout.

For the sponges, I am referring to sponges meant for aquariums.

Similar to the below.
