An aquarium NFT platform has launched, in what is a first for the global aquatic industry. NFTs stand for Non-Fungible Tokens and in simple terms, it is a unique, one-off digital code applied to designate an item of property, and who owns it. Outside of aquatics, this could be art, music, or even a house,…

I have been involved in NFTs with my company. bigger ponzie scheme them cypto, in my opinion. It may be something in the future but right now you can get around the whatever blockchain capabilities by a simple screen shot.

NFTs are ridiculous, and their current execution is bad for the environment.

Edit: that link isn't even describing an NFT. It's describing a membership. Memberships are fine and useful. NFTs are not.

They are still a NFT. Not all NFT is what we traditionally think of it as. Yes in many ways it is like a forever membership that is transferable in the scenarios they describe, but built on the architecture of NFT.

This type of NFT is one i actually feel has promise in the future.

It's amazing how people can be so upset about what's effectively a digital public receipt. The real use cases will be where the metadata is what's valuable, like memberships, licenses, etc. Imagine DRM free music and software, that's NFT licensing.

I think part of the reason people don't like NFTs is because of the number of people spending thousands of dollars (in a heavily environmentally unfriendly way) for a digital receipt for the web address at which a picture is hosted. Maybe there are good uses for them, but the first implementation was and is completely ridiculous.

I just read a story about the guy who bought Jack Dorsey's first tweet as an NFT. Paid $2.9M tried to resell for $48M at auction and the highest bid came in at something like $450. The guy refused to sell and still has it up for auction. Supposedly it's up to $10K now. Honestly it is nuts. At this point in time most people are just buying them to flip them in hopes of making money. They don't see them as anything worth keeping. Like if I bought a Da Vinci or Monet or something else like that I wouldn't be turning around and flipping it. That would be my pride and joy acquisition and you would have to let it from my cold dead hands before I would let go of it. I wouldn't pay $5 for Jack Dorsey's first tweet but who knows, maybe it will be viewed as being like a Monet some day. The environment part of it is a whole other ballgame.

I dabble in digital art (as a wannabe artist, not a seller). NFTs have been buzzing around us for a while, and several people have seen unauthorised NFTs of their work. You could go to somewhere like Opensea and buy an NFT of something I created. All you would actually own is the NFT. Not the picture, the copyright or any rights to the image whatsoever. NFTs just prove that there is one born every minute.
