Does this require an external
pump or does it have one in the unit?

There is no pump included,

Depending on the size of your tank/return pump this is either plumbed inline on the return or part of your return flow is diverted and returned to the tank via this UV.

That said, I don't know of a UV that comes with a pump, except maybe some very small units. All others are plumbed inline.
