Aptasia ???

I was given someone’s setup to take care of consisting of a couple live rocks, 2 clowns and a frogspawn coral, I noticed a good handful of small aptasia on one of the rocks so have removed it and boiled it and it’s currently sat out in the sun so hoping it’s done the trick! I do appreciate it means I have lost the beneficial things living on it but there were too many and I thought they were isolated to just that one. This morning I have noticed some small dark things on the plug of my frogspawn and I wondered if anyone can identify if they are new aptasia starting or something else? I’m completely new to this so would appreciate any help in what they are and how to get rid of I need to!

You need better pics, you cannot see anything in those. Use only white lights and a flashlight if it’s in a shadow.

That’s what I was thinking to be honest! Is it a case of waiting until they are big enough to inject as these things are so tiny I think I’d struggle to get them without catching the coral

I can't really tell what the back specks are. Do they move? Are they hard or soft?

And PLEASE - DO NOT BOIL YOUR ROCKS!!!!! You are lucky that in the process of boiling them you didn't aerosolize any potential toxins on/in the rocks. There have been way too many accounts of people doing just that and ending up in the ER.

If you want to sterilize your rocks, you can - soak them in bleach for a day or so, rinse them well, and let them sit in the sun for another day or two.

Ooo gosh! I had no idea! Thank you for that information!
Luckily as it’s been so hot I did it in a trug in the garden!

They have not moved at all from what I can see.

I have not touched them as didn’t want to irritate them if aptasia and also haven’t wanted to upset the coral too much are they ok to be moved about if needed should I wear gloves? Use large tweezers or something?

The coral is on a plug that’s in a hole in the rock and I have read that they sting so have tried to leave be as much as possible

If it isn't moving keep an eye on it. Try to make out if they have tentacles. Those are not aiptasia.

If you can rotate the coral to shine your blue lights on the polyps to see if they glow, could be buds of the coral. If not, maybe a sponge.

I will try that tomorrow the lights are dimming down for the evening at the moment. If it’s a sponge should I let them grow?

Most sponge are harmless (unless they die in your water). Yellow sponge is usually toxic and slows down the growth rates of some lps and sps.

Get a copper banded butterfly. He will take care of them For everyone you see there are others you don’t. The copper band will always find them as they spread and it keeps him fed
