Wondering if anyone has been using the new Neptune Dos Quiet Drive for dosing? Appreciate any reviews or advice. Thinking of upgrading my old Dos dosers.

I haven't used it - but am curious why you would 'upgrade' something thats working well (just wondering your thoughts)

Just regurgitating what I’ve read elsewhere, because I’m also interested, so not firsthand experience…

If you like the original, you’ll love the QD. Basically same but much quieter and can do continuous dosing. Plus the manual advance buttons are “more protected” (rubberized? sealed?). Oh, and it’s darker!

There have been *VERY* isolated reports of malfunctions involving the DOS QD but they haven’t tracked down a cause yet. Maybe hardware, maybe the software update. Typical new-release bugs I suppose, but worth noting because of the possible implications.

Expensive. But all Aperture-owned stuff is anymore.

Neptune fans will love it, Neptune haters will bash it. Typical stuff these days :upside-down-face:

I’m personally waiting until I *need* to upgrade. Or win the lottery.

I am not using one, yet. One the surface, it sounds like it is a simpler design (less to cause problems) and can continuously dose. Price difference is minimal, and honestly I suspect that the original will be discontinued. Unless I am mistaken, EoTech and Neptune are under the same roof - so they have plenty of experience to draw on.

As I said, I am not using one yet, I am not dosing yet. But I am putting a system together and will be integrating one into it - easier to design the control board from the begging and work out wiring before it is all under the tank and I want to dose in 3-6 months. Perhaps 6 months down the road I will not see the need to dose, but the odds are pretty good I will get the same chasing parameter disease everyone else seems to get and one point or another.

My biggest worry is the current threads in the controller forum. Lots of Apex headaches. But, that said, I will be setting this up on an empty tank first - so hopefully either they will work out the problems before I add water, or if they system crashes no coral or fish will be threatened. Planning on months of monitoring anyway before any dosing starts.

Thought I read that they are the same price as the current DOS units. No increase. Could be that the DOS is expensive but I don't know about that, sorry.

I think the DOS is the best product in Neptune's line. It's the only thing I miss about running Apex.

Bought my DOS second hand and I’ve now had them 4 years. Do worry about some major problem when I’m away for a few days.

The DOS was $279 not that long ago. so yeah when you raise the price to $299, $329, $349 in short period of time it appears the new unit costs the same as the old @ $349

Well, sit in my living room (actually, anywhere in the whole house) during an awc cycle and you'll understand why! ha!

+1 I'm in my office on the other side of the house and I can hear my DOS churning away with a water change. If you are using it as a dosing unit, then it probably is fine.

I bought one and immediately returned it. Only because the dosing head on the left side would not snap in. I tried many different ways and even used different replacement heads. Still on the left motor unit the head would not snap in on the right clip. I probably just got a bad unit but still sucks when you pay $350 and you can't even use it
