Ok guys,

I feel like a major bonehead.
Moral of todays short story, go SLOW!
Verify what you're dosing like 4x before doing so!!

Usually I like to do MAC testing every 2 weeks to a month depending on coral growth.

The last couple months the tank has been on auto pilot and consumption hasnt changed for me to need to tweak anything so i havent tested.

Heres where the problems start
Uh oh.....alk and calcium are almost out so lets get ahead of the game and mix up some new 2 part :)

Mind you, im a DIY 2 parter. (Some may already see where this is going)

Alk, grabbed my big bag of baking soda and mixed up my alk.

Calcium, grabbed one of my large jugs of ice melt and mixed it up.

Close to 1 month later......

Test MAC
My normal and expected parameters are
Dkh ~8
Cal ~ 420
Mag ~ 1400

My alk was @ 14!
Calcium was @ 380!
Mag was @ 1490!

What the heck batman!

(Last night)
Time to mix up some more 2 part.....
Grab my bag of baking soda, jug of ice melt and this time I need to make some mag too so im looking for the epsom salt and mag chloride and BAM......it hits me.

The jug of ice melt i used last time i made calcium WAS my mag chloride -_-

I normally keep my calcium dihydrate ice melt in a different location for this reason and totally belly flopped on not double checking the label....
Let alone the color of the cap!!

Anyone else feel like a bonehead today?

EndRANT!

True. I dont think anyone in my tank minded the gradual alk climb to 14 and now back to 8.
Even when i found the numbers skewed i figured my consumption changed so i unplugged alk and let the "calcium" ride. Even added a couple 1 min feed times in the schedule lol.

Thanks for listening to my story :)
