Gonis grow their own skeleton, it should grow wherever you put it assuming the flow, light and water parameters are to its liking.
So what will happen if i just leave it on a frag plug in the sand like that will the skeleton just grow over the plug?

It will continue growing out from all sides. Eventually it will cover the plug, yes. They tend to grow like a mound/hill, with tentacles coming out.

Gonis aren't encrusting, so you don't need to stick it to anything.
Goni’s are indeed encrusting. I have 2 that have encrusted very well. Goni’s, Alve and bernardapora come in branching, encrusting and just growing into a ball

Some are encrusting, but this doesn't look like an encrusting variety.

Nice tank i do the same with feeding it
It works I think Goni’s are more apt to absorb nutrients through their skin and yes I do get “ feeding response” when I use reef roids but recent studies have shown that they do absorb nutrients directly through their thin tissue and if that’s the case then the AB plus is the best food for them. Of course that’s just my opinion you know what they say about opinions if you ask my wife mine stink more than anybody else’s but my tank sure does look pretty so I guess I’m doing something right

That looks like a rainbow monipora man lol
Yea it does! Pretty cool huh. The red one is similar but I had the polyps close up so I could show how much it encrusts. It’s from TSA it’s there Laffy taffy Goni. The skin is crazy neon purple and the tentacles are this dark to bright orange that changes. I wish my iPhone could pick that up better

Red Sea ab plus target dosed directly onto the goni with all the pumps off has worked wonders for me. I have a bunch of Goni’s and Alve’s
Can you make a build thread already so I can learn all your secrets? Lol
