Dear fellow reef-lovers,
I am a scientist working on giant clam genetics from the University of Colorado Boulder. I have sequenced genomes of a few giant clam species and now we would like to do more development research using their larvae.
To my knowledge, giant clam farms are usually overseas (Palau, Marshall Islands etc). They only export the living giant clam for aquarium trade when they reach to certain length. As you probably know, giant clams are under CITES and it is very time-consuming to get one permit. That leaves us only one choice: finding a giant clam breeding facility within USA (including Hawaii).
I am definitely not an expert on giant clam aquarium trade, nor am I familiar with their breeding facilities. Does anyone know any facility and their contact information? They probably can have thousands of larvae in one spawning and we only need a few to do research.
Thank you for your help! Feel free to contact me!
