In recent weeks some sort of mysid shrimp appear to have become the dominant miniature crustacean species in the tank - there’s just thousands of these little things zipping around in the sump all the time, see video for a sample area.

Are there any downsides to these things being so dominant in the tank vs amphipods? Do they war copepods?

I don’t see them as much in the DT - I presume they promptly get eaten as most fish in there are planktivores that’ll eat critters this size…

Amphipods
The bigger critter crawling around on the left is. All the little ones look like tiny wingless dragonflies, move differently than the amphipods, and under a microscope look a lot more like this , just I have a hard time photographing with the phone as it keeps “helpfully” switching lenses.

Populations of micro critters like these self regulate in the tank based on conditions such as food and predators. You should be glad that are in the tank for you as cleaners and fish food.
