D-D actually recommend this tip although I never saw it in the assembly instructions.
After cutting the lengths of rails to length apply a couple of coats of black (or clear) nail varnish to the cut ends before assembly.
I also go over the joints when assembled just to be sure. This will greatly reduce the chances of the thin plastic covering peeling at these points due to salt attacking the alloy. This also works for the Red Sea jump guard and no doubt another's.
