The solution that I use to raise Alkalinity is Red Sea Foundation B and it has some solids at the bottom, which I usually shake shake ... before dosing (pouring) it (manually) to the sump.

I intend to automate the process by using dosing pump ... by automation, that means no more manual shake shake before dosing.

Is it a real need to shake the bottle before use? if so, how do you do it when dosing via dosing pump? you won't be there every day to shake the bottle before the machine dose it.

Randy has DIY recipes for alk solution that is much cheaper and no solids precipitate when it is mixed.. I'd use that and save yourself some big bucks...If you still want to use the Red Sea just make sure the inlet is not on the bottom of the container with the solution you are dosing...

Aahhh okay thanks folks. i was under the impression that it need to be vigorously shaked before use.

Eventually I will use Randy's recipe but not now as I'm too time constraints.
