Hi,

I’ve recently installed a Tunze algae reactor which has been running for about 10 days. Started with a small ball of Chaeto which is now pretty much filling the reactor. I haven’t harvested anything yet but on today’s water test I’ve noted there has been no reduction in nitrate at all. Is this normal? Will it take time to work?
Thanks

If the algae is growing it is working, converting nitrate into algae mass. If you don’t see a change, maybe the algae reactor cannot keep up with the nitrate production of the aquarium.

Remove some of the algae. I had a reactor. Prefer a larger area like a sump compartment

Its gonna take time.....algae reactors are not instant..nor a magic bullet...and depend also on how much nitrates you are putting into the system as per Dan P
