Leaving for a vacation and my blue tang has this swelling on its side for a day. The fish is acting normally just wondering if there is anything I need to do before leaving. Thanks.

This may have stemmed from an injury but can also be infected. Being that kanaplex is absorbed by a fish, I would recommend treating fish in a separate tank using Seachem kanaplex with added aeration.
Is fish eating and breathing normal?

Thank you for the advice. The tang is acting completely normal by eating, swimming, and breathing. Of course it came on right before a trip.

Are there any other tangs in with it? They are a common cause for injuries like these. This looks swollen, like it could be an abscess. Those are difficult to treat with medication in the water, as the antibiotic can’t easily reach the bacteria inside. Injections work better but require a vet.
Many times, these resolve on their own.

Thank you no other tangs in the tank but the tang has been a bit aggressive to other fish.
