Today I came home with a new baby Vlamingi Tang approximately an inch long. I currently have 5 Tangs in a 200 Gallons Reef running for 3.5 years. All 5 Tangs are established and getting along without any sign of aggression for the past 3.5 years maybe because I had them since they were babies. I also kept them well fed with Nori and frozen Mysis. When I saw the Vlamingi today I did not hesitate to bring him home. He has been quarantined and ready. It has been in my 'must have list" but I put it off for while because I'm scared the other tangs might bully him. I know 6 Tangs in 200 gallons is over crowding, I was hoping to upgrade my tank in 2 years to 500 gallons. I currently have the Baby Vlamingi in a box for observation. I was told to wait at least a month before releasing it with the rest go the gang. Thoughts?

Mine was a baby too when I added her. She grew pretty fast and is about 6 inches now. My tangs chased her a little when I put her in then were fine. Shes now best buds with my naso tang. Only issue I see would be the purple and sohal going after it. PS I love your sohal, dream fish!!

I picked up one too! They are so cute at 1”, I quarantined mine for a month, then placed him in an observation box inside the tank, it allowed the other fish to get to know him.

I released mine on Wednesday this week after 3 days observation.

I had a blonde naso, yellow belly blue, 3 purples, sailfin, gem, and a yellow. I was worried about aggression from the tangs too, but they barely noticed him, he’s about the size of a blue chrome, so the chromis actually bothered him the most.

Day 2 now, and he’s completely settled in, no issues so far, eats really well.

Had to snap a picture of him before the transfer, something to look back on.

Yeah, I got them when they were all super small, about an inch, after about 6 months they started fighting each other, one got absolutely shredded, I tried to catch him before it got worse, but couldn’t, then they all just settled down, almost like they established a rank between the 3. They are about 1 year in my tank now.

How to describe them… they kind of remind me of a pack of velociraptors haha I doubt I’d be able to add any other zebramosa tang now though… when the bigger purple attacks himself in the mirror, it’s wild to see, he gets these dark lines down his body, that reminds me..

OP. Use the mirror when you release the Vlamingi, should help distract that Sohal

Thanks for your reply. My Sohal is actually the friendliest of them all. The purple is the evil of them all. Two years ago when he was about a year old he bullied my yellow and powder blue till their demise. He’s good buddy with the rest but he hates tangs with bright colors.

My baby vlamingii was only 3” a year ago. Now she’s at least 6 and growing fast! She’s still smaller than the blonded lipstick tang but I’m confident she will likely be the biggest fish in a few years.
Mine is so tiny he’s even smaller than the clown fish

Awe!!! So cute. Honestly not even sure the tangs would notice him right away, especially if you release at lights out?

Let us know how it goes, I think it should be fine, use a mirror if you notice any aggression. With mine, no tang bothered him, just the blue chromis chased him a few times.
The other Tangs don’t even look at him. Unlike when I was introducing hello tang they were all over them.

He’s now out and about swiping with the rest of the Tang gang! So far no aggression from others and they just simply leave him alone
