Last night at around 11:00, I think I caught my blue stag acropora spawning. The event lasted about 30 minutes.

Heres some pictures for anyone curious!

These two were at the start of the event.

This was near the end of the event, after releasing a bunch of the eggs.

This morning, back to normal.

Sorry for the poor quality iPhone photos.

Was this a wild colony or was it something you grew from a frag? Just curious. I’ve been listening to Richard Ross’s YouTube stuff and he was just on Reef Builders Reef Therapy podcast talking about coral spawning. He was saying you need 2 corals of the same species but from different parents if you want to spawn. Coral spawning is a very interesting rabbit hole to go down. It’s pretty much uncharted territory.

@Thales would be interested to see this. Was just listening to Reef Beef and Reef Therapy with Rich Ross and he was just talking about this. Really neat that it happened for you and you were able to see it. I may try this myself in the next few years.

Good on you for tagging him. I was drawing a blank on his user name

Thanks for the tank people!

Very cool.
How long have you had that coral and were did it come from? What is your lighting schedule? Do you run moonlights and if so, what is there schedule?

Thanks!

It was something that was grown from a frag. It’s been in the tank since around 2020.

It was grown out from a frag and has been in the tank since 2020. I’m pretty sure it came from another reefers tank but I’m not positive. The tank is 50 gallons.

I have reefi unos that come on at 10:00am and off at 9pm. I also have it under T-5s that turn on at 12:00 and off at 7:00. Sometimes it gets off schedule by a couple of hours. It also gets a lot of ambient light pretty late into the night.

No moonlights right now! There’s a few additional frags in the tank and one other large colony.
