I picked up a cheap piece of acro today at my LFS and when I was acclimating it I noticed it had this big white spot missing with some algae growing on it. I hit it with a Turkey baster to blow the algae off and some white flesh came off with it and this is what it looks like now. Does anyone know if this is from a pest or a recovering spot from being dragged? Thanks!

looks like it was probably touching another coral and loss. Than algae started to grow. Your best bet is to cut damaged section out, and glue the remaining branch for another new frag
