Is it the RR tank? If so , I cut out the return elbow in the overflow area and installed a 1 1/2" durso standpipe on the outside back of tank. This made the overflow very quiet w/ no issues. I see your from mass, check out the boston reefers website and search my name and you can see the 2 cube builds I've done. I recently just bought another 60g cube but had it drilled and installed a gl*******.com overflow, so much better( SUPER QUIET) and its super small. any ?'s feel free to ask

What was the GPH on the pump that you replaced? The overflow box is pretty small on them it sounds like its getting more water than it can handle you might have to throttle it back a bit
