hello everyone and hope you are all doing well.

After finally getting the vertex 150 figured out I built a sump with the length of 30 inches. I was apprehensive about the project as the cabinet is only 32 inches, but assured by every person who measured it would be no problem. Aqua Dream is a horrible company who will not even speak to you unless you purchase directly from them. I called repeatedly and finally spoke to someone who was kind enough to tell me the tank had to be removed as it does anytime you need to access or upgrade anything in the small 10 gallon sump.

Fast forward three months and finally the tank is cycled although nitrates were bit high and no doubt rising so needed to do big water change, perfect time to slide the new filter in. Problem is it does not and in no way is it ever going to fit in the cabinet. So now I have my family room a mess as I am at a loss as to what the heck to do. The ten gallon has a competent filter pad area and space for protein skimmer, and that's pushing it as it is almost too tall. I have no problem adding the 20 long as a second sump and could put behind the cabinet (it is made of metal and as all are its walls and the front brace which is in place with industrial rivets. So drilling it on the side or removing any aspect of it is not an option.

Is there any way to do this? I will not be able to have sit higher than the first sump as I have nothing strong enough to support it (was told it had to be higher than first) and the research info online is very vague and it seems like, since none of the three panels are permeable, as though I am out of luck. Please help; and thank you so much. I await your responses with baited breath and have included a couple pics here for you to see.

So there's no way to slide it in from the back or the side? That would be the route I would take. Even if I had to break out the dewalt sawzall. :)

I will certainly check right now. It won't alter the structural integrity? Would it be impossible to run both with one behind? I will check now. Ty. Ty

Thank

If the structural tubing is welded together and not pop-riveted then it should be strong enough. What is the inside height the cabinet? I'm just wondering how much room will there be to work in the sump. It looks like it has some height to it too. Since it is a metal cabinet it's going to continue to rust over time. I can see some of the rust showing on the hinge hardware. You will want covers over the sump to lower the evaporation inside the cabinet. :)

The height of the cabinet is more than enough. Even the protein skimmer cup can be removed without issue.

There is a large hole drilled in back panel for wires already and it is certainly a different material than frame. I got this from their website:

  • 31.5 (L) x 14.2 (W) x 25.6 (H) inches
  • Aluminum frame, resistant to scratches and deformation
I took a photo of the Inside of the cabinet and listed the details of the stand description verbatim from their site.

I was wondering if there was any way, since I will be putting it in the.corner if I coukd place the larger tank behind or in vertical as the one inside is perfect for filter floss, vio media, p..s then return to second sump w refugium?

Ty so much for all your help!!
