I bought a used 60 cube rimless tank that holds water but the thickness of the glass has me concerned. It is 0.315 inches thick which is equivalent to 5/16” or 8mm.

Is that enough for a 24” x24” x 24” rimless tank?

What safety factor should I be at?

3/8 can and does work on rimless cubes 60g's and down. I've successfuly ran/ran rimless in that size (60 & 50 gal) for more than a few years now.

I didnt even know anyone would make something rimless that big with that thin of glass. I wonder if its was rimmed and the rim was removed.

3.8 is the most commonly recommended safety factor; this tank as described would sit at 3.0, so eurobracing it would probably be a good call.

Are you sure on your thickness measurement? Using a Tape measure or even a ruler can be very inaccurate. I got one of these several Christmas ago, from Amazon. Invaluable for measuring aquarium stuff, and general use around the house. Especially useful, on is that “Metric,” or “American Standard.”

Thank you everyone for the help.

I measured with a micrometer so the thickness is just about 5/16.

The tank is drilled so I don't think it is tempered.

I'd like a better safety factor so I will have to euro brace it or cut down the height when I reseal it.

This has been an expensive lesson. Thanks again for the advice.
