150 pounds live rock
100 pounds live sand

From Gulf Live Rock.

I am guessing this is normal, but I just wanted to check.

Also, when would you add fish? It's a 425xl RedSea, 112 gallon total volume, and we'd like to add a few fish to start.

IMO....as soon as Nitrates show up you should be good to go....by that, I mean a reasonable amount and not 0.001

I would purchase the Seachem Ammonia Alert badge.

Once the ammonia reads “safe” to “alert” (0.02ppm-0.05ppm) I would add fish.

The live rock will take a few days to maybe a week to build up the bacteria population to handle the ammonia. Until then, there’s no reason to feed the tank.

Coral I’d introduce right away, fish about a week later.

Testing for ammonia is a good practice, but honestly it should be taken cared of by the live rock rather quickly, and a week is usually enough time for it to kick in.

Just wait til the ammonia is gone, do a small water change, then you are good to go. Please buy pre-quarentined fish or start a QT for yourself.

Be patient, your first fish will really appreciate that from you. While you wait do lots of reading and research, this is a complex hobby.

He can use the same Seachem ammonia badge I suggested in the quarantine tank, too. It’s very accurate and works with copper (for fish QT), while most other ammonia kits will give false readings in copper.

I like the badge because it gives 24/7 ammonia readings. Just take a glance at the badge and that’s all it takes (the color represents different ammonia levels).
