20G TALL Nano Reef!

My build here consists of:

20x10x24 20G TALL tank(was passed down through my family to me)

Filtration:
-Seachem Tidal 75 with OEM components
-Polyfilter
-Live Rock
-Live Sand

Heating:
-Eheim TruTemp 100w heater

Current:
-Hydor Koralia

Lighting:
- NICREW 100w HyperReef


Live Stock!!
-As of now there are no live stock, i am just beginning the cycling process BUT....here are my thoughts!

-Definitely some coral coming. I LOVE LOVE zoas and Mushrooms, so i plan on having those, would like GSP, Frogspawn and most definitely a torch coral at some point I think.

-Fish? Safe bet yeah, I think probably a few small fish like damsels, clowns, I had a watchmen goby a long time ago, I think i wanna try that again if deemed okay in a tank my size.

Interesting setup, you’re going to have to elevate your aquascape much higher or use a powerful light.

I had a tall cube once which was 30” high and it was a challenge to get any par to the sand

Thanks for the reply! Yeah i think its going to be a challenge for sure, I decided on the NICREW 100w LED light. Im hoping that works here for me..

Welcome, glad you are here, to me a reef tank is not complete with out a clownfish pair. You may want to add a tailspot blenny as another possibility to your list. Small fish with a huge personality and low bioload.

Pulled the trigger and got myself a NICREW 100w light for the tank. seems to be lighting this sucker up really nicely. Still in the cycling phase so will see how some corals do as I continue to get my aquascape going overall. Gotta epoxy stuff together to get some height in my tank for coral!

20 gallon extra high, it's got the dimensions of two standard ten gallons stacked. Don't see those much anymore. It might be a pain to scape considering it's only 10" front to back, but I'm interested in seeing what you come up with. Maybe use some branches to eat up some of the height?

Updates:

-New lighting, pulled the trigger on the NICREW 100w hyper reef.
-Have a small aquascape on the tank but I'm going to be epoxying a bunch of stuff to try and get some height in my tall tank.
-Cycling has started though!

Update today!

Got alot more rock in the tank and built up an aquascape thatI like for the most part. I have plenty of ledges and crevices for coral and fish to hang out around. I did wanna try and get it taller but for a first time user of epoxy it didnt come out the way i anticipated.

I definitely think im gonna try rolling with this and see how it goes but I may be changing a few things up to get even more height on the one side or the middle.

If anyone sees any other suggestions on something I can do with this im all ears! I actually may try and get some branching like rock to add some height and depth.


One thing to note, the depth of the tank definitely played a part here. I do have some rock leaning on the glass like on the far right but I think I'm going to try and adjust it some but yeah this tank is challenging for scaping thats for sure.

I think it came out great but you will need to get the rock off the glass and make sure you have enough room so that you can clean the glass.

hey thanks yeah i was a bit concerned about that. Is the glass cleaning that important in the minimal spots that I have rock on it? Im guessing yes but was curious to see how much it will really be a problem?

I suppose it’s up to your tolerance of algae and dirty glass. If I had to guess, once you have the tank full color and beautiful coral and fish it will become an eyesore for you.

fair enough! good point. I definitely think youre right just wasnt sure if its a massive problem other than being an eye sore or if it may cause other problems
