Behold the the cheapest 20 gallon long tank I could throw together lol. It’s sporting a tidal 110 hob for filtration, an BRS 100w titanium that I had in storage attached to a INKBIRD controller, left over sand and dry rock, the Amazon special hygger mini wave maker all stuffed into a 20 gallon long from petco that was originally a sump. It will be illuminated by the robust viparspectra 165w (it’s been in my attic for two years).
Livestock plans for this tank

1 frostbite clown

1 rbta (and if god willing it will produce more)

And a clean up crew

Nice tank. Always good to see people do it on the cheap side. Doesn't have to look fancy.

Any reason why you went with the 110? I thought the 55 was overkill for me lol.

Using an aqueon 20 gallon long myself for a cheap tank for rock seeding and coral QT.

I did the 55 and honestly I have it on the lowest setting. None of my Duncan's or torches likes the water turbulence it causes.

I'm thinking about making a 3d print to extend the waterflow down to lower the turbulence.

Honestly I just went as big as could for the media basket space and I didn’t want to buy an extra power head. It doesn’t look like it’s moving water like too crazy but I also don’t have anything in the tank yet to see how violent it is yet lol. I think the placement on the side instead of the back help disperse so of it also

Its the splashing that makes it more turbulent. And yea having a larger media basket was my thoughts as well hence the 55. But I did not imagine how violent the water was going to be. This was my first HOB as well. So not prepared.

I'm still deciding to move it or not. I like everything in the back. But ideally for flow. It does make more sense to put on sides.

This one doesn’t splash at all really I’ve Got water line all the way to the bottom of the overflow and it’s just making nice little ripples on the surface. Idk if the 55 is higher off the water cuz it’s smaller but this one sits right on the water, really quite too no running water noise

You know now looking at it. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong and just need to add more water lol. I have mine sitting just below the black portion of the rim on the tank. Its not major splashing but the lid does get way more salt build up near the hob. Well time to try it out when i get home :D

I was thinking the same thing. I've got a 110 on my 40b and it's like a waterfall - sound, splash and bubbles. I'm also going to raise my water level..

Yup. I like this a lot better. Much more interesting. You got some good height with that one rock.

So I have made a change lol I had a 55 gallon tank not being used and Because I have a 10 gallon nano already I wanted more stocking options. So this tank is getting changed out for my 55 gallon build ! It will be sumpless and simple as well though !
