2 wave makers "slave" set up?

Going to add another wave maker to my 20L, also thinking of upgrading my 24 gallon as well. Both tanks' wave makers have the "slave" unit functionality. . . but I don't really know how this works? Do I point them in the same direction and they ramp up and down together? or would I point them at each other and they would run opposite?

Thats sort of what I figured. . . I imagine that helps get that "back and forth" sway. . . but was not sure. Thank you!

Yeah wouldn't need a second one if they were just facing the same way, could just achieve that with one I'd think...
