Here is my tank 6 months ago.
I was really into the clean look.
This was it's 8 year anniversary.
20230604_192235.jpg

This is it today.
20240102_162214.jpg

Notice the growth of orange in the middle.
Thanks to R2R and all the research and fun I've discovered I changed a few things and the tank is totally different.
I'm experimenting with adding some corals from my little rescue tank and seeing if the trigger is OK with all of them.
Learning experience.
Maybe help to others along the way.
When he was little he destroyed all my Kenya trees so I'll keep a good eye on him.
It's not like he doesn't eat enough already.

Tank looks awesome! Great growth of orange and green in the middle. I would love to see it filled with some more corals.

Thanks dude!
Like I said slowly but surely.
Don't know what he's going to destroy yet.
I'll keep you updated.

Here is my little tank in August.
20231017_150604.jpg

It's looking a bit different today.
I changed the lighting. Not sure if I'm happy with it at all. Might go back to the led fixture I bought.
It's water change day,every Monday.
20240102_162159.jpg

This is it right now. Very white.
Nothing in here cares about the lighting except me.
I paid $10 for the LTA, everything else was free. I knew nothing about corals 2 years ago so I'm winging it.
Hopefully someone will read all this and it will help them too.
I don't dose anything, really. Just IO water changes.
I run phos at zero nitrate was 23.4 last week. Hoping to get that down then use algae scrubber to maintain.
We will see.
More later.

I will!
Thanks for following along. I think it's super important that we all support each other through these showcase threads.
I have to say even after 35 years I still learn a lot from everyone on here, especially through these threads so let's all keep them updated.
I fail a lot in this aspect and I'm going to try my best to support you all better.

So I changed 15 gallons today in about a 110 gallon system.
20240108_165135.jpg

Sure enough, nitrate down about 12% so that part of science is true.
Look. I'm not that bright.
I love this hobby and my fish and I'm trying some science experiments just junior high school smart because everything seems so complicated to me.
I've been doing a lot of research on whether soft corals use N and P in any amount.
Concensus is yes but the use then export of those really is inconclusive on the amounts and definitely not the same as the harder corals.
Everything looks better with a water change and running phos at 0 doesn't seem to tick them off so I'm trying to get nitrate lower than 20 to see what happens there.
There was a thread on here about algae scrubbers, the use thereof and how effective they are.
I still don't know if it's that effective and unlike that thread where some said it eliminated N AND P, mine has not eliminated it but it just may keep them stable.
20240108_165933.jpg

Just wondering if I water change down to 10 it'll keep them there. Maybe that's the best way to use them. Can't just hook it up and kiss nutrients goodbye.
Just searching for a little truth in this small science experiment that maybe makes a difference to someone other than me.

That was a great way to spend your time while your stairs were getting done!
That is a cool setup you have outside of you stand.
Keep it up

Tank looks nice tonight.
20240111_182511.jpg

Everything is still in there.
People ask me what CAN they put in their tank if they have a trigger.
That's what I'm working on right now.
I'd like to know too.
So far so good but he's super well fed and, it's a trigger so you never know.
Hoping not to post any bad news.
