So I just bought a Hanna salinity checker for my tank.
A little reason why I bought the checker. I travel a lot for work and so a lot of the time I’m not home to look after the tank. My family do a good job of the basics and then I do the water changes when I’m home. Recently they needed to do a...
Hello everyone, I really tried to figure this out before making this thread. I also read a few similar threads from other members with similar problems. But decided to make my own thread in the end (hopefully this is in the correct area). I apologize in advance for the long read.
Tank is a...
So I have been using the hanna digital salinity checker for my salinity readings for the past year or so and have consistently gotten a reading of 1.023 with an occasional jump to 1.024. I just bought a refractometer and tried it today and got a reading of 1.026. This is a day after getting a...
Hello all,
Weird question. So basically, I’ve always used a bottle of Fritz Refractometer fluid to calibrate my refractometer. I had a bottle of BRS fluid, and also just got another brand new one. Well today I tried all of them, to find there was a difference of 5ppt between the Fritz and a BRS...
So I just purchased the new Hanna Marine Monitor that has a PH probe and a Salinity/Temp probe. The unit continuously displays the above and uses temp to accurately calculate it’s readings. I hooked the unit up and followed the instructions on how to use the included 7.1 ph solution satchets and...

I've been calibrating my refractometer with RODI for the past 2 years. I now know that it's best to calibrate with calibration solution. I want to switch to calibrating with the solution with my next water change, but the problem that I ran into is when I calibrate using the solution my tanks...

Does copper artificially elevate salinity readings on refractometers? I am at 0.25 copper today, and did a water change before starting to ramp up. The bucket of water I mixed said 35ppt, and I just went to test the salinity of the QT tank and it was at 43.
I'm adding fresh RODI water to bring...
I was wondering if there was any Salinity testing equipment that actively reads Salinity in real-time, I use the Hanna Salinity Checker which I really enjoy but sometimes I get the feeling that it's not as accurate as a Refractometer.
I already own a delicate, glass hydrometer from Dupla. Plan on buying a digital refractometer, the Hanna one specifically.
Should I own a handheld refractometer to double check the digital refractometer?
The Vee Gee STX-3 is a bit of an investment, but I can't doublecheck with the hydrometer...
Good afternoon,
Using tropic Marin pro reef mix (German); I have ~25 gallons and added 12 1/2 cups of salt and ended up with 1.010 on my refractometer after 36 hours (heater at 77 and power head in the brute container too) which idk why feels odd. The furniture I was planning to put the tank on...
How accurate is the veegee stx-3? I just purchased one for 115$ shipped and was wondering if a made the wrong choice? I read on a forum on here for a good refractometer, and the Vee Gee cam up more than any other as their go to.
I want to get into the habit of checking my salinity more often.
The issue is using a salinity measuring tool that I can trust, and rely on without having to tinker with it every time.
An analog refractometer requires quite a bit of tinkering and cleaning for one measurement.
The Hanna Salinity...
So I just picked up more salt and RO/DI water at my LFS. I checked the salinity with my refractometer and it said it was 1.030, they told me it was 1.025. They used a very expensive salinity checker so I’m assuming there’s is more accurate then mine, so the problem is the salinity of my tank...
Like new digital Refractometer, comes with original box and RODI/sea water standard samples for calibration. Works flawlessly just no longer need it as I’m no longer in the hobby.
Asking $105 shipped.
ok so i bought a refractometer because i wanna get pinpoint accuracy of my tanks salinity and i have a few questions.
ok so first of it’s a fairly old refractometer it looks to be sitting on that shelf for a while will that affect how it works i opened it up and it looks brand new though.
also...
Situation up front, do to my poor selection in refractometers my 90 gal LPS dominate tank is currently sitting at 1.017 and I need to know how much and how quickly I should raise the salinity.
I notice that about 2 weeks ago that my hammer wasn’t extending as much as he had been so I started...
Hello Everyone!
So a week ago I realized my ATC refractometer was calibrated wrong by about .003. No big whoop, instead of being at 1.025 my tank was at 1.021 where it was running stable. I did a PWC of about 30%, brought the water up to 1.022 and figured I would just do some manual saltwater...
SOLD !!! ATC Refractometer including the calibration tool and a microfiber cloth behind the inside cover. The case latch is broken. Only use about two times. I accept PayPal.
Thanks
I bought this Milwaukee Refractometer and haven't used it much. I used it when I first got it then bought a hand held one from BRS. I am selling the refractometer with case for $100.00 with shipping included. It sells for $110 on Amazon and the case is $25 on Amazon.
