Build Thread My Pico Reef - 33L / 8.7 Gallon

Hello, my friends. This is my other tank thread. I have a nano of 125L (33 Gallon), but needed to set this pico because my clowns became agressive with all the other tankmates. So, in the pico are my clowns and a Yellow Clown Goby (the only tankmate from the nano that get along with the clowns...

    Lighting as Heat Source?

Is that possible in a 3-5 gallon? Halides produce a lot of heat and apparently even LED's do too. Considering the small volume of water, could lights alone maintain at least 75F in the tank?

Nano Build High ammonia for an unknown reason, pls help!

Hi, I have a Fluval Evo 5. The tank has been running for about 6-7 months now, absolutely no issues until now. I had a pike blenny and a elongate dottyback (too small of a tank and overstocked, I know, was planning on moving them to a 16 gallon) until both vanished one day. I pulled apart the...

    My new Pico reef project

Hey all, so I I’ve kept fish since I was a teen (with a long break) but up until last year was just freshwater. Towards the end of last year I finally pulled the trigger on saltwater with a Fluval Evo 13.5 and it’s been amazing so far. I’ve always been enamored by marine life. Fast forward, my...

Build Thread Just Another Pico Reef

Hello all, Usually just poke my head in once in a while to see what everyone is up to, but this time I decided to make a small thread for my small tank It’s only .3 gallons so not a lot to work with, but slowly turning it into a good old fashioned tiny mixed reef is my desire. As far as...

Nano Build Pico Tank recommendations (1-2.5g)

Hello, I retired my 10g last year as I was moving a lot and was to big to easily move. I’m comfortable moving tanks without destabilizing it to much so not worried about that. I want to get into desktop reef tanks. I’m wanting 1gallon but no bigger than 2.5 gallons. Any recommendations for AIO...

Awesome Jellyfish Aquariums! Anyone seen these before?

While strolling through the elbows of people at Aquashella today, my kids and I came across the most interesting tank but it had jellyfish! We had to pick one up as something like this is usually only seen at the beach far south, making this a really cool find. Anyone seen any of these tanks...

Nano Build Trying to find decent light for decent price on my new Pico tank

I’ve been having trouble finding the best light to use for a 2 gallon Pico tank I recently set up. I would LOVE to be able to grow small acros in this thing, but using the extra ai prime I have seems a little like overkill. Any suggestions? Would like to keep it around $50 but I know that’s a...

    Nano Build DIY Pico

Hi Everyone! I am going to be taking on the challenges of building a tank from scratch, and doing a pico reef! Im new to reef tanks and would love as much advice as I can get! Im planning to build the tank to be overall 8"x8"x8" and leaving a 2" section in the back to do an AIO setup, so the...

Build Thread Pico 2 Gallon, because i like to be on edge.

***Posted in wrong thread, moved to Build thread*** Hi everyone, I thought i'd do my first build thread. After a rollercoaster few months with my large 30Gal which is now calming down, evidently i get a high off consistent panic, so i've decided to induce more stress on myself. Secondhand 2...

I just learned I’m supposed to use an adherent to attach my frags to my live rock. I’ve been using a different method

For the entire time I’ve been reefing, I have been setting my frags in the most stable locations on my live rock without using any adherent. I just started two new pico builds, one has a protopalythoa Zooanthid that seems a little stressed sometimes but also seems happy at others and isn’t...

    Upgrade! Ish…

Back in February of 2020 I started my fish keeping hobby and started out with freshwater. And after having so many small tanks I finally got a 10 gallon fresh tank. All I have to do to this tank is change the water and clean out the pre filter sponge. Everything else works it’s self out! So then...

Nano Build Hand made Pico reef

Hey everyone, I was up in the loft the other day and found my old aqua one duo Betta villa and thought it would make a nice little tank. I then cut it all up and resiliconed it, I removed the centre part and AIO filtration and moved it to one side to create a tiny 8L peninsular tank. I think I'm...

Nano Build Cool Nano Reef Bowl

The color on these corals is excellent and by mitigating evaporation, it stays very stable. Only spends 30 mins per week on total maintenance. Kinda flies in the face of “picos are hard and params can fluctuate wildly. Reef Bowl

Nano Build Amanda's Fluval Evo V rescue and Rehabilitation

Hello all! About 6 weeks ago I rescued a 5+year old Fluval EVO V setup that the previous owner had let slide and was ready to literally flush and toss. Equipment: It had been setup as a reef tank with the stock AIO equipment and filtration, and what looks to be an aqueon 50w heater. About...

    New Pico Tank Setup

Hello, recently i got a new 2.5 gallon tank. i’ve had plenty of freshwater tank experience and i know how difficult smaller tanks can be with fluctuating parameters... So far I have about an inch of sand on the bottom and some live rock, I’ve purchased saltwater from my lps and the tank is...

Fluval Chi - First SW tank - Open to Ideas

Hi all, Thanks for taking the time to view this. Firstly I have done some searching on this forum at PICO tanks and will continue to do research before committing. However... As this is my first SW tank I am open to all ideas and thoughts. I have OCD so the aesthetics need to be minimal, for...

Nano Build Pico tank coral stocking

I’ve got this 2 gallon pico tank set up and stocked but the top of the rock work looks a little bare. Is there a good coral to keep in a pico tank that likes medium to high par reading and high flow?

Kessil A160WE on a Pico - is it overkill?

Hi there, So I had this idea of converting a 5g (25x25x30cm not sure in inches) dennerle to an AIO to keep some LPS like hammer, blasto, acans and some shrooms. I am trying to stay as low budget as possible, so hunting around for used lights. I have this rare opportunity of picking up a Kessil...
