Hi I am using GFO in a reactor to try and lower my phosphate currently at 0.264ppm using Hanna ULR. I cross referenced this result with salifert and it appears to be the same.
My issue is that my GFO seemed to not be doing much so I tested the effluent coming out of the reactor about 10 mins...
I’m using phosphree maxspect absorbent rn. But stuff works well. Was thinking using gfo but that’s stuff pretty expensive. What other methods could I try?
Tank parameters:
40gal
Time frame of light: 8hrs; Considering a 1 day black out... Light setup is 3 blue bulbs and 1 white.
Salinity: 35ppt
Temp: 74F
pH: 8-8.3
Alk: 9.6
Nitrate: 6
Phosphate: 0.2 (keeping low to combat the hair algae)
Calcium: 420
Magnesium: 1300
Clean up crew is comprised of 10...
Hello, I'm new to reef2reef so I'm not sure if I'm posting correctly. Nitrates 40 pmm, phosphate 4 pmm, salinity 1.023
I was wondering if my ratio of nitrate to phosphate was ok. Also what I could do to fix it if it's not.
I work at a fish store on the weekends with a 180 gallon saltwater...
Hello,
I have been running a 180g+ 60 gal sump) acropora reef tank for almost a year now, I've had frags for a few months and some do better than others, I have some milleporas that have paled over the past months. A while ago, I've come to the conclusion that my phosphates were the issue. I...
Hi everyone.
I have a 30-gallon tank, with 6 fish, a few RFAs, and soft corals. My phosphates spiked this week, going from about 0.05 to 0.9 ppm on the Hanna checker! (They may have been higher, but that's as high as the checker goes.) A large water changed and some of the Brightwell...
What suggestions do you guys have for bringing up nitrate and phosphate?
I have a Reefer 300XL and it seems no matter what I do the nitrate and phosphate are extremely low, and now I'm battling dinoflagellates. Even after doubling my feeding and ceasing water changes my nitrate stayed at 0. I...
phosphates help growth in coral but also brings algae and lose of coral color. How important is phosphate in saltwater aquarium? I rather have mid nitrates levels 15-20 ppm maybe push 40ppm before 10% water change all while keeping phosphate levels low. Calcium will be readily available and more...
Hey everyone, I'm experiencing some difficulty I was hoping you could shed some light on. I'm trying very hard, and open and flexible to any suggestions.
I'm experiencing erratic and varying phosphate levels. I cannot seem to maintain consistent levels ~ 0.01-0.05. Instead, I either bottom out...
Hi all, my tank is 3 months old and I have made the decision to cycle some Caribsea life rock away from my main display which is eventually going to replace existing rock in my tank, as I believe my crazy high phosphate levels of 0.21ppm are being caused by leaching phosphate from the rock that...
Hey guys, I am new to the hobby and I have a 20 gallon that's been running for a a few months now and all cycled. I am having problems with green hair algae and I have been removing it manually to prevent it. It's not a lot yet but it grows on the aquarium glass. I've read that it might be how...

Do 10 micron filter socks filter lanthanum chloride precipitate well?
Or does a 5 micron filter sock actually do a noticeably better job?
Anyone has experience with both?
Is the 5 micron sock harder to clean? (talking in terms of dislodging the precipitate for future use with lanthanum...
I'm currently battling a GHA problem on my 45 AIO cube and am just completely at a loss. Willing to hear any and all advice and would prefer not to use Vibrant since I've read horror stories. I used Reef Flux to fix this in the past but would prefer not to run it again and just figure out where...
Hello,
I have a 100 gallon DT with a 34-gallon sump. Probably 100 gallons total. I run a skimmer, and carbon in a reactor. I have previously run GFO mixed with the carbon but eventually moved to auto-dosing NoPOx. For a while everything was good. 0.1 phosphate, 1 nitrate. Over the last few...
Hi,
I'm battling green hair algae in my 14g tank. I started by getting phosphate levels under control and trying to maintaining levels of <0.1. Levels creep every few days, though. It's helping but not completely.
According to my Red Sea test kit, the nitrates are undetectable, which seems...
One never used Hanna Phosphate Checker (HI713) and 50 tests. $25 plus whatever shipping method you prefer unless Boston area handoff.
One barely used Hanna ULR Phosphate Checker (HI774) and 50 tests. $40 plus whatever shipping method you prefer unless Boston area handoff.

I know this has probably been asked and answered 1000 different ways, so please excuse me if it’s frustrating, I am new to the forum and this is my first post, so I’m not up to fully understanding format here.
I have a 225 gallon mixed reef, the tank is less than a year old, it is heavily...
I have a newer tank setup. 20g AIO cube. That being said, I turned my middle chamber into a chaeto reactor and it doubled in size in about two weeks. I just tested my levels and came up with this -
Ammonia .25
Nitrate 0
Ph 8
Phosphate .25
Nitrite 0
Full disclosure I’m not 100% since I’m using...
Good afternoon.
Question: Is there a rough ratio I can use to dose alkalinity at the same time as I dose Lanthanum?
Why? I have an Apex with BRS dosers and intend to inject LC into the skimmer as needed to control Phosphates. I've experimented with it and it seems to work. But yes...the...
Hi , Had an outbreak of Cyano / Dyano and it killed a few of my corals.Being a new reefer it was difficult for me but finally figured out. I am sharing this just in case its helpful for another new bee. 250G system (Display tank 1 - 150G, Display tank 2 - 50G - Sump - 36 and refugium - 29G)...
Hey all, just have a question regarding my Phospate levels.
I installed a GFO about a month ago, when my phosphate levels read at .71, since then, I have brought the numbers down to .19-.22 but it seems that they have plateaued there.
I am running a GFO, a biopellet reactor, protein skimmer...
So I come down to make coffee this morning and find this happening in my QT tank,
PO at .5ish tested twice
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrates: 10
Ca: 415
Alk: 8.3
Mg: 1230
Gonna do a water change, probably head to the store today to grab some phosguard.
Any other suggestions? Should I pull the...
Setting up to reduce my nitrates which are at 40 ppm and I want to get them down to around 10 ppm. I currently have mostly soft and LPS corals, but tried introducing some Monti's, which are extending but I dont believe they are doing well. Additionally, my Phosphate is high so my assumption is...
Turns out I won't be needing GFO on this tank, so I'm selling an almost full 4lb container of BRS bulk GFO (3lbs, 11 ounces). Asking $40 locally, or $55 shipped*
* I'm 90% confident the original container will fit in the medium flat rate box, but if it doesn't, I'll have to repackage in a...
