Hello all,
So I have bought numerous macro algae and they kept dying.
Even used chaetogrow.
One thing I used and seems to be working perfectly is Ferrion by brightwell aquatics which is an iron supplement. I struggled with keeping the macro algae alive for a while. But since I added this it...

Hi y’all!
I’ve had this macro algae in my reef for years. No clue where it came from but my foxface tends to ignore it beyond the occasional nibble. I have a bristle tooth in QT so it very well could end up being history soon. Curious if anyone has ever seen it or knows what it is.
I may end...
I had bought this macroalga few months back, I always thought it was C. racemosa, but I noticed the difference in its frondes (stalk) that grow shorter than the C. racemosa image I found in the internet that had tall frondes sprouting from the stolons. Is it just individual variation or I had...
I have had this tank going in one way or another for over 10 years. Ups and downs , mistakes were made. It is a 30 gallon with 20 pounds maybe of live rock and some newish dry rock at the bottom. It has been in the New used tank for 5 months and coraline is growing well. I consider this the main...
Ok, so Im really new to the hobby, in fact, Im just starting and have only fw experience. I know saltwater is a lot harder.
Im attempting a mixed tank of mostly macroalgae (hear its easier), but I cant find any info on whether they can be added during the cycling process, like freshwater...
Algae color is highly dependent on lighting conditions + nutrients.
White light under T5s makes gray for me
Actinic lighting makes it blue.
Somewhat delicate and highly palatable. Does not develop holdfasts but will attach as an epiphyte.
$15 per portion
Shipping USPS priority rate ($9)...
I'm excited to start working on a new project, a 100'' long shallow reef tank! Previously, three smaller shallow reef tanks covered this wall.. but I always had the dream of creating one large, low-tech, system and having lots of mangroves, macro algae and nano critters in it. Above the water I...
I just got a good amount of macro algae: a couple ulva, a red fern, a pom pom, blue octhodes, and queen of hearts.
Right now they’re just kind of floating around my tank because i’m waiting on glue to be delivered, but while I wait I thought i’d ask.
What’s the best way to attach macros to live...
hi ! i’m new here and to marine aquarium keeping in general. I ordered some macro algae and the Ulva I ordered came with this lil guy and pieces of him all over it. just wanted to know if this is a bad, good, or neutral hitchhiker ?? any tips and advice is appreciated as well !!
Has anyone successfully integrated a macro algae into their system? I was thinking of splitting my overflow to put about 80% to my refugium and 20% to a macro tank. The output from the macro would go to the skimmer chamber in the refugium.
thoughts?
The instructions for my Tunze chaeto reactor (large version) say:
Two questions:
I don't really understand how the reactor can keep the nutrients stable, if I get rid of 90% of the cheato. Should I really toss about 90% of the cheato when I harvest?
I measured out 390 grams and it's not really...
Hey Guys, I currently have a 40 gallon Trigger sump I just set up with my 50 gallon frag tank. Anyways this is my first sump so I am kind of going in blind at the moment not knowing how to place everything in terms of media and such so if you guys could just give me any tips or what to change...
Hey all!
I have a 10+ year old 24 gallon tank at home that is self-sustaining, but has tons of Coralline algae in it. I know some people like it, but I don’t. Can anyone give any tips on what clean up crew to add to attack this? I was thinking a zebra urchin and some trochus snails.
I set this tank up in January. Is this normal getting this amount of pods in 5-6 months? Things I did, I used pods/phyto from algae barn right after the tank cycle was complete. Got the refugium up and running on month 2. And during the initial tank set up. After the cycle of course. I also got...
Looking to buy macro algae. Not wanting cheato, but something that can attach itself to the wall or rock. I don't want it floating around or getting stuck into my pump. Maybe something fancy.
Hi ID Experts! Thank you for taking the time to look.
Here's something that we found last weekend while at the beach. (Lido / Sarasota - Gulf of Mexico)
I added it to my main tank, but now I am second-guessing it since some responses to my OTHER POST about macros that we put into my Son's...
Hello,
I'm in the process of setting up what will be a 55 gallon macroalgae tank, and was wondering if there is any specific salt that I should use that will give me the best chance, or if it doesn't even matter. Salt like Natural salt water, red sea coral pro, instant ocean, etc.
And any...
Looking to add different macro algae’s to my new seahorse tank and refugium and these are two I’m trying to track down. Was considering eBay and taking the gamble but wanted to see if anyone had any first?
I have grown some rare yellow orange variant of the normal dragon breath algae, and I name it JJR dragon flame. It is still red under natural light, but blue spectrum reveals the brilliant yellow orange color. They feel a bit softer than normal dragon breath, but is alive and growing.
DOA...
