Fast growing corals can save your tank....when I started reefing I read a lot of blog posts...and many warned of the dangers of green star polyps and pulsing xinia and the sort taking over your tank. I think this does a disservice to new reefers....here is why. Fast growing and easy to care for...
Hello fellow reefers,
I just purchased a variety of GSPs roughly 1 week ago. I’ve noticed my 2 new emerald crab always picking at them and wondering if he’s the scapegoat for the base loosing its mat (the purple mat encrusting the coral at the base) and then noticed my other GSP turning white...
I have a 1.5 month old evo 13.5
I am using the stock lid with stock lights and a powerhead.
IT has a clown, sixline, spotted goby+shrimp pair, and a few hermit crabs+ snails (nassarius, trochus, margarita). These were gradually added and livestock seems to be doing well.
The parameters are...
Hello!
I’m new to marine aquariums and I just added my first corals.
I have a Fluval EVO 13.5, with an AI Prime light, Sicca 1.0 pump upgrade.
Added a Green Dragon Eye Zoa, a Yellow Submarine Favia and a GSP.
The Zoa and Favia seem to be doing fine, but the GSP is not doing great, still...
So I got my first coral( a gsp) and glued it to a separate rock. I noticed within the first few hours it started to open a tiny bit. But, like 2 hours later, my cleaner shrimp starts tugging on it. I don't know if its cleaning or eating because it closed up again.
Please Help.

Do you prefer Coraline algae on the walls of your aquarium or GSP? Any opinions welcomed. If you prefer something else on the walls, please state what you prefer in the thread.
I added a small frag of encrusting Green Star Polyps and gave it its own rock island. Fast forward a year, and it's grown so much that it stretched over the sand and finally found my main rock work. I was too slow in stopping it, and it's now growing up towards my other corals.
Last night I...
Is it safe to scrub GSP with a brush to oblivion while rock is in tank? I removed a huge portion by peeling, but there's still a piece left (about 1.5" by 1.5") that I want gone. Any of you try scrubbing it inside the tank? Will it spread or will it create a toxin in the tank?
Hello!
I received some frags from my buddy's LFS and have had these for a about two months. I'm thinking of letting it take over the back wall of my ten gallon nano, but would love to actually know what they are before I do. They have a purple mat with green polyps but are much smaller than...
Hello everyone,
Over the past 8 months or so I have been having some success with my 10 gallon reef tank! I just wanted to say thanks to the community for all of the help and advice that you guys have gave. It still has some room for improvements but it has turned out better than what I would...
Hello!
I am new to the reef tank world, started my tank early this year, I have a GSP that typically looks great, last night I noticed some strange white things growing on it, can anyone tell me what these are? They have an opening/hole on the top and look prickly. There are 4 of them on it and...
Hi guys,
I am about to get my first soft coral and have decided i want to have GSP covering the back of my tank.
For you folks this is probably a ridiculous question but whats the best way to get it to grow on the back? Do i sit the frag plug on a piece of rock toughing the back of the glass...
