Random and a bit of a silly one but is this a Favite coral that’s attached to one of my snails?? Just spotted the bright pink dots and it seems to be purple with the pink dots on one half of the shell.
If so, is that common?? These are the best pics I could get.
So I’ve been look at some Favites war corals in a few different colors. They all almost look like they’re fragged from the same colony despite the color differences. Some are let’s say 90% blue, 10% red. Or 10% blue, 90% red. Or anything in between. Would separate frags like these grow and...
My favia (i think) has been bleaching. I moved it to lower light to see if that was the issue but it hasn't gotten better. Please help! I've had this coral for years.
These are what I have to work with. I do not want to sell these frags without keeping some of them. How can I go about fragging these off the plugs?
we dont have a band saw or a dremel, i have a collection of different metal cutters that we use for fragging euphyllias but dont know how well it...
Won this coral by bid just over a year ago. It was listed as ‘yellow eyed favia’. It was like 1 inch in size when i got it. It grows slow but it suddenly will have a growth spurt sometimes. Its now on a 2 inch plate cause it over grew the one it came on. I realised the polyps are getting bigger...
Hi, folks.
My son and I are adding corals to what had been a FLOWLR tank. We recently picked up 6 new frags, that have been settling in in a QT for the past week. At first everyone seemed happy. But then yesterday (6days after arrival) we noticed our new Pyrokinesis Favites starting to develop...
Hello LPS Lovers!
I've got a 24 gallon mixed reef which is sorely lacking LPS but has plenty of softies and some SPS corals. However I am really looking into getting a brain coral, as they just look totally wicked and have a kaleidoscope of colors.
However I am wondering which genus of Brain I...
I'm a sucker for these corals and it seems like no one has made one of these yet. I think they're so incredibly under appreciated for the amount of color they provide to the reef and how easy they tend to be to grow!
Make sure to post your pics and names of your pieces in this thread too!

Hello all! New to the hobby! Is this white spot/substance coming out of my favites something I should be concerned about? It is located at the bottom of my tank in low to medium flow and medium lighting. Thanks for your help!
Upon seeing a recent post I am now questioning what is what in my tank
What is the difference between the different types of brain corals? (Favia, goniastrea, favites, etc)
I'm working from home, so I have a close eye on the reef these days.
It feels like everything is on fire. This coral isnt growing fast enough, the PE on that coral isnt what it was a couple of weeks ago, the very pricey trachy is doing something weird again, etc...
We had an algae bloom we...
Hi all,
We recently added a couple of favia / favites and an open / maze brain coral.
The open brain has had a couple falls. Turbo snails can be a pain, it seems. The open brain has some white lines on it, and some die off / browning where it was cut.
The small favia has good color, and no...
So when I got these guys they were extending their tentacles every night for about a week. Ive had them for little more than three weeks and I saw one the other night extend maybe a tentacle halfway. Why is that?
Hi, quick intro, I’m new to reefing, about 2 months into my nano 10 gallon, everything is going smooth, stable parameters and such. I have purchased a few frags of LPS from a local hobbiest a couple of weeks ago and he threw this Favite (I believe that’s what it’s called) in for free. A few...
I've been collecting corals, but couldn't figure it out.
this first one, I'm thinking Cyphastrea? But what kind?
#2 – I have no idea.
3 –Favia or Favites? But which? (incidentally, apparently my Photoshop work sucks. The guy on the left is far more yellow, then green. Bright yellow!)...
