Good evening,
Had a few setbacks and decided to redo the flooring of my house so I had to take down my 4 week cycling tank. Fast forward to today I have everything set up except for lights (gonna wait 2-3 months to do so since it’s bare bottom) for my waterbox 25 gallon peninsula and have been...
Hey guys, have a few questions on curing and storing Australian Live rock. I know of a guy that’s suppose to be getting a large shipment of Australian live rock in at the end of this month, beginning of next month, downfall is, he’s much more expensive than Unique Corals. I was really wanting to...
Just joined this forum as I have recently acquired a secondhand tank in hopes of starting a mixed reef tank.
You can read my welcome post for details, but long story short, I have 100-125 lbs of dead(?) live rock that was included in the sale of the tank. I was informed by the previous owner...
I have been trying to cure some very fresh very live rock I obtained. I set it up at the right temperature and salinity and prepared for the bad smell. It never happened. Every once a while I topped off the tub with RODI. Several weeks ago, i added a shrimp and did 50% water change.
It has...
I recently bought 10 pounds of live rock with green hair algae (I got it for an extremely good deal at $.50 a pound). The rock was out of water for a day But was still moist when I bought it. The rock has been sitting in a bucket with water and a powerhead until I can figure out what to do with...
Just restarting an old tank and wanting to make sure the rock is 100% pest and phosphate and problem free.
I bought around 40Kg of rock from a guy that had removed it from his tank around a year ago and it has just been sat around dry since then. However, I don't know or trust the history (I'm...
I've recently purchased 25lbs BRS Reef Saver dry rock to start an IM 25 Lagoon, and have conflicting information on whether I should cure the rock or not.
It is advertised as the 'cleanest rock from BRS', and free of nuisance algae/pests.
The BRS FAQ for Reef Saver has conflicting information...
I've read everything I could find on curing dry live rock and basically they just state how to get it safe to put in the display tank. My goal is to make the rock a biological powerhouse, not just safe. I got my 100g reef tank last November. It was set up for 2 years before I bought it from a...
I recently purchased 40 pounds of dry rock from Amazon for a reef tank I am setting up (https://www.amazon.com/Worldwide-Imports-AWW0855-Atlantic-40-Pound/dp/B0002DI7F0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1502734990&sr=8-1&keywords=atlantic+coral+rock+worldwide+imports). I rinsed the rocks in RODI water...
I've been soaking some rock in freshwater for 3 weeks or so and finally got some LaCl to help get phosphate out. Rock is soaking with a powerhead for circulation.
I added the first dose of the LaCl. As expected the water clouded up and within about 24 hours it cleared up.
My question is should...
So I have decided to cure my BRS Dry Pukani in my new DT.
I will also have some Tonga Shelf and Branch in the tank.
I started this thread to both ask for advice/feedback as well as post my success or failure.
Personal Reasoning for curing in tank vs a conventional method - Tank build got...
Hey Guys,
Very nice to meet you, and thanks in advance for the tips! I did a lot of reading & a lot of watching & a lot of question asking - and turns out there's a ton of contradicting information. I figure I would just lay out my specifics & seek guidance from the awesome community here!
So...
