Hello, I added mussels to my aquarium for the first time. This is its second day and it is responding to the reactions. He looks good except for his mouth. Is this much mouth opening normal?
Also in local lfs it said maxima but I think it's crocea. Can someone with knowledge about mussels help?
I just got this ultra crocea shipped from Biota and noticed that the mantle is damaged once it opened up. Does this look like a pinched mantle? What can I do to help the damaged mantle heal? How long does it take for the mantle to heal?
I'm a bit peeved that I was shipped a damaged clam...
My crocea clam has detached from its original rock. It is still on the rock but its foot is not attached to the rock.
Should I be worried?
1. Its mantle is still opening up and it is still reacting to the light.
2. Foot looks clean after inspecting for any bugs.
Looking for local pickup only in the Tampa area as I'm not certain enough in my shipping practices to make sure this expensive beauty would make it safely.
The clam for sale is the larger, rainbow crocea shown on the left in each picture. It's approximately 2.5 inches and was purchased during...

Hi all reefers,
My crocea was 'sit on' by my bubble tip nem the last whole night, this morning I rescued it out and it looks weak, doesn't respond to light or touch and cleaner shrimp & snails start picking on it?. I'm not sure whether is it dead or still able to save? Pic shows it's in a...
Has anyone placed their clams at the top of their tanks? I'm looking to turn my tank into an LPS dominant tank which means my substrate may not have enough par for a clam, but the top of my aquascape might.
Sorry for the poor photo quality. He is in the sump now, and I'm not going to handle him without a good reason.
Clam was doing okay on a rock about 2/3 of the way down the tank. His mantle was looking a little pale, and he was too close to chalice and goniopora corals for comfort. I moved him...
So I have been thinking about buying a tridacna clam for a couple of weeks. I'm not planning to buy it soon but around late spring/early summer. I was just wondering if anyone can give me any good tips on taking care of these guys, best places to get them, personal experiences, etc.
I have a...
Hey, I don't see a thread for comparing clam prices across different locations and times of year. Hopefully we can get some pics and prices posted here just to get an idea of what these sexy mollusks go for. And possibly have an expert confirm that they are even labeled properly.
Local LFS in...
Hey everyone,
Do you think that a crocea clam could survive with an Ai Prime if I place it fairly high in the tank? I know that they require more light than other clams but they would all outgrow my tank.
Any suggestions?
