Today an algae bloom appeared in my coral quarantine tank. This is my first batch of coral frags and my first time setting up a quarantine for coral. The frags and tank have been setup for about a week. I used Biospira to seed the tank and used a fresh mix of saltwater to setup the tank. I'm...
Hello,
I recently went to two of my LFS's and bought 2 cleaner shrimps from one store and 3 starter corals as well as a BTA from the other store. I have placed all of the corals and the shrimps into a 20 gallon QT in an attempt to not introduce ich/velvet into my DT. I was wondering how long I...
Just got ich/velvet so planning 90 day fallow. I'm fine with QT fishes and inverts but think I can't be patient enough for qt for coral frag swaps. Hydrogen peroxide has been used as coral dips for algae so I am wondering anyone used it to bypass frag quarantine assuming the chemically violent...
My coral QT got its glass a bit scratched up, so I'm thinking of making into a fish QT. I'd like to replace it with a Waterbox 10G, but I'm unsure.
Is a coral quarantine tank that small gonna need weekly testing for Alk and such, even if it has only a few corals in it?
Thanks!
While the skeleton of Euphyllia and other LPS may look absolutely clean at first sight, they may be covered with all sorts of algae spores and tiny pests invisible to the naked eye.
Has anyone tried cleaning with a q-tip and hydrogen peroxide or reef delete? Any other preventative measures...
I live in a small apartment, and I'm wondering how small can a coral quarantine be, provided I only want to test for Alkalinity once a week?
I realise that Alkalinity consumption is not gonna be huge in a quarantine tank, but still.
I’ve been very overwhelmed with setting up a coral qt and I got to thinking— maybe the possibility of pests isn’t such a bad thing?
Having the perfect “pest-free” tank with 100% assurance feels a bit....sterile. In a sick way, I kind of enjoy the slight possibility. Pest prevention practices...
Hi everyone, I have a frag rack running where I qt corals, new coral always comes in and out of that tank. I have a few mushrooms in a little plastic bin floating in the frag without a base, they're just attached to the bin. Would I have to qt corals that don't have a hard base like rock or and...
I’m setting up a frag system that I intend to populate with Trochus snails, a wrasse, a current stock of corals, and , eventually, new corals. So, I have been researching an appropriate way to quarantine them.
I have read about hobbyists putting snails and corals into a 76-day quarantine...
Interested in hearing what others are doing! Do others maintain a full time coral QT or do you just set one up for the 76day period when you receive new batches of coral?
I have been maintaining a full time 29g coral/invert QT for the past year. It has been headaches to say the least... It...
Just researching the coral quarantine tank and thinking about the dipping schedule.
I am looking at a fallow fishless, quarantine period of 76 days to rid the corals of the possibility of cysts hatching and infecting the fish in the display tank. Within that 76 days, how often, and with what...
Received this rock with a couple of mushrooms from our local reef clubs dirty santa exchange. I dipped it and all sorts of stuff came out, but I didn't see any hitchhikers that were actually bad. I have a 20g long tank setup as a coral/invert QT... glad I did. 2 weeks later, and it looks...
I've heard that Jason's corals are pretty pest free, i just received a gift card for Christmas and was wondering what people's thoughts on whether or not I should QT the Acros I'm ordering. Thanks
It seems that a coral frag tank and a coral/ invert quarantine tank are very similar. There aren't any meds used in a coral/invert QT, so aren't they the same thing? If I'm missing something here, let me know!
I was going to setup a 20g long coral/invert QT and thought I might just keep it...
