i have dinos in my tank, I set up a UV sterilizer turned the lights off and blacked out the tank.
My concern is I have an acro coral frag, a birds nest, monte a bunch of SPS, a leather and other softies, as well as a bubbletip anemone.
How long can I safely black out the tank before my coral...
Hello ,
I had a bad outbreak of ciano and part of my treatment is sump blackout (since I had it worst in there).
It’s been dark for 3 days, but I think I might need a day or two more,
Can Chaeto survive that or I need to turn the light back on tonight ?
Thanks
Before I start, I would like to say I kind of hate using the word emergency here but it is time sensitive and blackout as in controlled, not a power outtage
In my tank I have a very big Dino outbreak. I did a massive clean last night of siphoning the sand and cleaning off the rocks and glass...
hello all I am new to reef2reef and I’m having a little trouble, I am dealing with some pesky, what I’m thinking is either Dino's or Calothrix. I’ve been trying to get nutrient levels up but can’t seem to. Can’t even keep Cheato alive which I’m assuming with a new-ish tank this is going to be a...
TL:DR can/should I leave a very low wattage "night light" on during a blackout to reduce the likelihood of my fish from accidentally swimming into an anemone?
So I have, something (algae/Dinos/whatever*) that I am planning on doing a 3 day blackout for.
Last time I did a blackout I lost a...

Wanted to share the new aquascape! Next up will be filling and cycling this babe. For reference its a 40 breeder with the Real Reef Tonga Branch (BLACKOUT) Rock. I got the 30lb box which was more than enough, but now i have some leftovers for smaller future tank. Back of the tank is painted...
To address my dinoflagellate issue in my SPS/LPS dominated mixed reef I'm going to try a blackout for 3-4 days per everyone's advice. However, I can't seem to find answers to the following questions regarding "how to do a blackout" in case anyone can help:
Do I need to blackout my...
Now that I've finally gotten rid of the turf algae in my tank, I'm now battling my first real outbreak of dinos in my 16 month old tank. I think it probably has to do with switching over to the Zeovit system 4 months ago, and having an ULN system not allowing the Dinos anything for competition...
So if anyone has seen my previous posts, I have been talking alot about my tanks having ostreopsis dino and what I can do to fix it. I followed the advice of a bunch of fellow reefers and i think i have successfully beaten the dino in both of my tanks!

The dino in this tank was horrendous...
I've got these algae in my 32-gallon tank that I can't seem to get rid of, see the photos below. I tried the hydrogen peroxide test where I took some of the algae out of the tank and tested it in a water/peroxide mix. It bubbled which supposedly means it is cyanobacteria not dinoflagellates. The...
Hi guys!
I've been having a small green hair algae issue (nothing major) but, HATE the look of it. I have tried water changes, GFO, Phosguard, and less feeding with not much effect. I have been thinking about a 3 day complete black out and, I have a couple questions..
1) Do I still feed the...
