Biomedia reactor or biopellate reactor to help store beneficial bacteria from established tank for potential use when starting up a new tank?

I've been thinking on this one for a bit as I have a couple of well-established tanks and I'm starting up some smaller new ones. Typically a decent bit of good live rock and care can jump start the tank pretty well but what if I had a larger media reactor hooked up to one of my larger well...

What kind of equipment/filtration poses the highest risk for "over filtering" a tank?

For fun I've been messing around with adding an overflow box to a water box 25 gallon peninsula in order to have a sump in the stand. In doing so I found been using a nano refugium I can fit and automatic fleece roller a full size protein skimmer, an algae reactor, as well as media reactors...

I’m changing my aquascape out with new rock work. I have 2 structures I’m adding. I removed half the live rock already and put one of the new dry rock structures in. I’m debating on a waiting a week before removing the rest of my old rock with the rock to give time for the biological filter to...

    Biological media

I have a canister filter and recently bought a second one to replace my orginal one. Both have been running together for two weeks, so I’m going to take the old one out. Should I just keep the biological media and put it in the new one or use as much of the old sponges as possible. Preferably...

Can you have too much biomedia?

Say you lived in an alternate universe where reefers had so much extra space in a sump... What would be the argument toward or against filling it to the brim with bio media as opposed to having just enough to serve your bio load? Can too much bimedia cause a problem or challenge? Is more better?

    Cat shark biological filtration

Hello, I am looking to get a juvenile coral cat shark for my 75 gallon saltwater aquarium then move him to my 240 gallon. I have very little experience with sharks especially in smaller tanks. The 75 gallon where he will only be for a short amount of time has 15 lbs of live rock so he has room...

I have accidentally created a spaghetti worm biological filter

spaghetti worms have colonized my air filter. Explains why my nitrates always seem low. Not complaining though.
