Hi All!
Setting up a barebottom tank, and wanted to checkin to see what are everyones thoughts on using
ABS (like BRS did) or HPDE/KingBoard (like WWC did) or just nothing on the bottom when setting up a barebottom tank.
Anyone have experience with either of the first two options? Does ABS...
I've been reefing for around 7 years now, starting in the hobby when I was 17. My first reef was a fluval m60 which ended up being still one of my best tanks to date. This tank was upgraded to a red sea 170 which was also a success. I ended up taking some time out the hobby due to university...

What a journey.. could this be the final iteration of my best? Maybe not but you just never know in this hobby. Just like many I've been enveloped in this hobby of reefing for the last few years , watching, reading, processing and applying all that I can. This is where it has led me and I...

So i have an empty 20g long tank and im not really looking for a reef but more just clownfish only. Id like to not go through a heavy cycle so im wondering if a bare tank would be okay to highlight the fish? I have a smaller marine light and a filter capable for 30 gallon tanks and a small power...
Hi everyone, I have been fighting Dino in my nano10 gallon tank. I plan to redo my tank which has corals and one fish. Is it possible to do this in one day in the same tank? What should I keep in mind while doing this? What would be the steps I need to carry out without causing a cycle in the...
I’ve always wanted to keep a build thread going on my system but I could never keep up with getting pictures on my DSLR. I finally got a lens filter for my iPhone which hopefully allows me to get good enough pics quickly without having to do a bunch of post processing to get them to look decent...
Yes it’s another upgrade/moving thread .
Okay so here it goes... I currently have two tanks up and running on separate systems. Both have sand in them along with live rock and fish.
System A has been running for a year.
System B has been running for 7ish months.
When I close on my new house...
Hello,
I'm in the process of stocking my 50G bare bottom.
I was thinking of adding one or more of these three gobies, depending of their availability. I hear they're pretty tolerant of each other.
Pinkbar goby (Amblyeleotris Aurora) - [located]
Orange Stripe Prawn Goby (Amblyeleotris Randalli)...
The summer is finally over and I feel more confident stocking my 50G.
It's 29 x 24 x 20 (high) bare bottom.
I'd love if someone experienced could comment on my stocking list.
Underlined fish are the ones, I'm really determined to keep, but I obviously accept comments.
The other fish are the...
I tried the trick of dividing the tank into thirds and came up with this. I really like the pillar looks.
Since I’m going bare bottom but I love the look of sand, I used Krylon Stone Texture spray paint under the tank to make a fake sand bed
Thoughts?
In the process of quarantining away from my aquarium, and in the very near future moving, I decided to build a new system for my fish/corals that will last at least the two years on my next lease. My fiancé is not completely on board with the idea of going bigger for the aquarium, so I convinced...
Hey everyone! After doing tons of morph research, i found the perfect clownfish at my LFS for my future breeding project! This is also my first shot at a saltwater aquarium and its a nano, but I’ve done plenty of research and plan to document everything here to help newer reefers. I used to...
A little bit of background. Been reefing on and off for the last 15 years. I started out with a 55g back in Florida. It was a good learning experience, unfortunately, I had to take the tank down when I moved back to Texas. A couple of years later I bought a BioCube 29g and had it for a couple of...
Started a 20g frag tank because my 1 1/2yo 14g Bio was starting to get crowded... I cycled the tank for 5-6 weeks and my parameters are as follows:
Sal/Temp- 34/70*, Kh- 9.6, Cal.- 429, Mag- 1260, Ph- 8.4, Amm- .25, No3- 6, No3- 0, Po- .5

Here is my Nuvo Fusion 10 I recently got going again. I replaced the stock pump with a Sicce Syncra Silent 0.5. I swapped out the stock filter sock for a media basket. I am currently using floss and Seachem Matrix Carbon, along with regular matrix. I have a Cobalt Neo-therm with an Inkbird WiFi...
I am going bare bottom on my new Redsea Reefer 650 peninsula and I have looked at r2r and did not see what Information I was looking for.
I am going to set up a poll for either placing my rock on the glass or on something like starboard. I can get starboard cut to size locally but just curious...
ABS plastic sheeting. Is this reefsafe? Is there a better option?

Has anyone had any luck (long/short term) with creating a false bottom out of epoxy/sand to reap the benefits of bare bottom while maintaining the look of sand?
I am wishing to document my journey with you all. Hopefully there will be more up’s than down’s, but willing to share (and learn) nonetheless.
I’ve always seemed to acquire secondhand reef tanks, but this will be my first new one. I decided to start from scratch and get a brand new Red Sea...
Brief history
The beginning
It all started at around the age of 4 in Cleveland, Ohio when my father purchased a 250 gallon fish only tank with show sized fish. He knew nothing other than they where pretty and paid people to do everything but feed the fish ( that was my job). I would soon after...
Who keeps a BB tank? I know that many horse keepers prefer bb tanks for their horses health and wellness. I thought it would be cool to see some pictures of your bb tanks! I personally still have substrate but, I am one step closer every day to going bb.
Show us your bottom! ;)
